The SVF Spanish program meets and/or exeeds the Florida Sunshine Standards and has been designed to motivate students to speak, write, and study the new language.
Students will participate in different activities based on their grade level. It has an easy to follow format that allows students to achieve success and to complete their main goal, learn Spanish.
Curriculum Guide
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PK – K SPANISH – Introduction to a new language implementing different approaches to understand meaning and sounds. Students learn new vocabulary by repetition and interaction based on their grade level and motor skills: classroom commands, classroom objects, colors, shapes, numbers (from 1 thru 20), animals, body parts, clothing, family members, greetings and most important the sign of the cross are some of the areas that will be studied throughout the year. 1st Grade SPANISH – Students review and learn vocabulary by participating in hands-on activities and games. This year they will learn to pronounce and to identify several classroom commands and vocabulary related to classroom objects, colors, shapes, numbers (from 0 thru 30), animals, food, body parts, clothing, family members, greetings and vocabulary about the community. They will master the Sign of the Cross in Spanish and learn new songs. 2nd. Grade SPANISH – Through an incorporated approach students learn pronunciation, spelling and writing of words. This is a process of practice and repetition. Students will be able to identify, pronounce and write words and simple sentences. The Glory Be prayer in Spanish is introduced during this year. 3rd., 4th. and 5th. Grade SPANISH - Students will review and study new vocabulary. During these years basic grammar, sentence structure, and correct spelling will be a major factor. In addition, the Hispanic world culture will be studied thru the form of visual, oral and/or written presentations. The following prayers will be mastered at the end of 5th grade : The Glory Be, The Our Father and The Hail Mary.
Middle School
INTRODUCTION TO SPANISH - 6th thru 8th Grade Students will review and study new and old vocabulary, they will work and study sections of Spanish grammar, orthography, listening and comprehension. To assist in the process of learning and understanding the language, they will participate in a series of hands on activities that will encompass visual projects, oral presentations and games. SPANISH I – 6th Thru 8th Grade Students will review and study new and old vocabulary. During these years they will work and study sections of Spanish grammar, orthography, listening and comprehension. This level will immerse students in the Spanish speaking world and will engage them in oral and written communication.
