Flag Football Captures Diocese of Palm Beach Championship!
The SVF flag football team squared off with the St. Juliana Shamrocks in a heavyweight match up of two undefeated teams at St. John Paul Academy Saturday morning at St. John Paul Academy. Entering the game, the Shamrocks (6-0) boasted a 25-0 record over the previous 3 years while claiming 3 league championships. Over that same time span, the Vikings (6-0) had compiled a 28-3 mark since quarterback Dylan Rizk took over the reigns as the starter. In this highly anticipated match up the athleticism and team speed of the Viking's defense would be the difference. Eighth grade defensive lineman Slane Glover turned in an All-Pro performance by recording 3 sacks, 4 tackles and 1 interception and set the tone for the Vikings. The Vikings would strike first on their very first play from scrimmage. Quarterback Dylan Rizk rolled to his right and connected with wide receiver Frankie Gonzalez down the sideline for a 50 yard touchdown pass. SVF padded their lead in the second quarter as slot receiver Riley Donelan snatched the ball away from a Shamrock defender and took it to the house for another Viking score. Eighth grader Jonathan Singer would score the extra point on a beautiful pass by Rizk. That was all of the offense the Vikings would need as Rizk picked off another Shamrock pass and Jackson Kadel, William Romac, Colby Hidalgo, AJ Rosacker and Scotty Anosier completely shut down the vaunted Shamrock offense. The victory gives SVF 10 points towards the "Bishop's Cup" which will be awarded to the top athletic school in the Diocese. All schools will compete in volleyball, flag football, boys & girls soccer and boys & girls basketball.
